The following details have been compiled by the Technical team in order to assist in moving the Payroll and EvolutionCommon databases to a new server.
Be advised, these details are standardised and subject to requiring additional steps as per your IT infrastructure. It is highly recommended that this Server Move be assisted by a qualified SQL Server professional.
Alternatively, a Technical Consultant can be assigned to take ownership of this task, subject to the approval of chargeable consultancy. To request a Technical Consultant, please contact your account manager or raise a case online.
Important: It is not recommended that a SQL Server Move or SQL database move occur during or immediately before a scheduled pay run. This is because troubleshooting after a server move can be time-consuming and may delay payroll processing. A server move is more complex than a new installation and, any issues due to the server move being completed incorrectly by a client will incur a fee.
Once the new MS SQL server meets the minimum requirements and specifications as advised in the document ‘Technical Environment’ (Appendix 1), the Payroll and EvolutionCommon databases are required to be moved to the new server. This can be done in a few different ways. For further information on this, please contact your SQL Administrator or refer to the Microsoft Website.
Once the database(s) are moved, please make sure that the database(s) are restored correctly and ensure that the correct permissions are set up within SQL to enable user access.
Note: Our license design looks at the full server name, full SQL instance name, and the MicrOpay Evo database name. Ensure your new SQL Server name matches your SQL Server instance name.
All MicrOpay Evo users will be required to locate (Find) the new server/database from the application, as advised in the Installation guide.
Following the completion of the above steps, you will be required to provide a new PIN to our Licensing Department so that a new registration code can be provided. A Registration Reset script may also be required to finalise the migration of the databases, depending on your configuration. Raise a case online to request assistance to obtain a new registration code and do a “Registration Reset” via remote access, if required.
Important: Please allow a minimum of 24 hours for our licencing department to issue a new registration code once the new PIN is supplied.
Items to consider as part of the server move:
Are you licensed for the HR module?
Support may need to use the MCT tool to finalise the “Registration Reset”.
Are you using ConnX or other 3rd Party software to transfer information to MicrOpay?
If yes, please refer to this article: Upgrade MicrOpay Service.
Be aware that the MicrOpay Service will also need to be reinstalled and configured on the new server as part of the move.
Are you using the Integrated Backup and Restore tool in MicrOpay?
If yes, please refer to this article: Backup and Restore.
Do you have multiple payroll databases to move?
If yes, then Support may need to use the MCT tool to finalise the “Registration Reset”.
