This article outlines the instructions for installing MicrOpay Evo on a new machine or server. This does not cover migrating the databases. If you need to migrate the databases and other services (MCS and MicrOpay Service) to a new host, contact technical support for further details, as this is a more complex process and may require booking technical consulting services.
Important: If the Databases also need to be migrated to a new server or SQL instance, raise a case online for Technical Support. The process is more involved and we need to discuss the process, reactivation of the licence and any potential technical consulting that may be recommended.
When installing the MicrOpay Evo application on an additional PC or new application server, you can use the current upgrade installer, as it is a full version installer. This will not affect your licence, as your licence is based on the database location.
If you require additional concurrent users (the number of users accessing MicrOpay Evo at the same time), you will need to increase your user licence. To do this, raise a case online, reference the title of this article with your customer number and request a quote for additional users.
To install MicrOpay Evo, access our software downloads site, and find the installation or zip file for the current release of MicrOpay:
Note: Upgrade installers are also full version installers and therefore can be installed on a new client.
After downloading the zip file, it is important to:
Right-click on the zip file.
Select properties
If there is an option to UNBLOCK, tick it.
Click Apply and then OK.
If there is no option to Unblock, click OK.
You can then extract the contents of the zip and run the setup.exe as Administrator to begin the application installation or upgrade.
Important: If you are prompted to upgrade from an earlier version, ensure you have a full backup of all Payroll and EvolutionCommon databases before proceeding. Make sure no users are accessing MicrOpay Evo. You will then need to install the same version of MicrOpay Evo on all other workstations that run it.
Refer to the article below for information on how to back up your databases:
After the software is installed on the new machine or OS:
Access the sign-on screen.
Click Find to locate the Payroll and EvolutionCommon databases.
Select the SQL Server Name where the databases are hosted.
Click either Use SQL Server Authentication or Use Windows NT Authentication.
Select the Database Name, this is the Payroll database.
Click Next.
Select the SQL Server Name, Authentication Type and the EvolutionCommon database as the Database Name.
Click Finish.
The Authentication method:
You have a choice of SQL Authentication or Windows NT Authentication. Under the security constraints for SQL, SQL allows two ways to connect to its databases i.e., Windows NT Authentication and SQL Authentication.
The MicrOpay Evo application can use either SQL or Windows Authentication to connect to the databases.
If the security login selected has these minimum permissions, which are established in SQL Server Management Studio. Select Security Logins, then edit the SQL\Windows login\group being used by the MicrOpay Evo users:
User Mapping (Database Permissions) - For accessibility, users require “DBOWNER” and “PUBLIC” permission for the Payroll database(s) that they need access to and the Evolution Common database.
Server Roles (User’s Permissions) - Require “DBCREATOR” and “PUBLIC” permission under “Server Roles” to take a backup and restore the database/s.
Please ensure that whichever method you use that the user has been given the above roles\user mapping, depending on which method they set up the SQL security login on the SQL server.
Note: The MicrOpay Evo application writes the user's default settings to the CURRENT_USER registry hive. If installing on a server, ensure the global policies allow the user profile sufficient permission for defaults to be written to the Current_User registry on the machine the application is hosted.
