MicrOpay ESS - Error: 'There is a problem connecting to payroll service. The remote server returned an err: (401) Unauthorized' when syncing a New Zealand database or in Integration

May also receive 'Error: ESS is having trouble connecting to Payroll. Will retry a few more times'

Updated over 2 months ago

The API requires a State to exist in MicrOpay. If a State isn't present then you may receive these errors.

To check if there is a State:

  1. Log in to MicrOpay.

  2. Go to Payroll, Maintenance, General, States.

  3. If no state exists, click Add.

  4. Enter a State Code and State Description.

  5. Click OK.

Perform a Sync in ESS:

After the change is made in MicrOpay, it is then picked up by MicrOpay Client Service (MCS) and sent to ESS. MCS contains interval settings that determine how frequently it picks up changes. This may mean that when you perform a Sync in ESS, the change may not be available because MCS wasn't scheduled to check for changes. To perform a Sync:

  1. Log in to ESS as an Admin user.

  2. Go to Settings, General.

  3. Tick Sync from Payroll for the database you added the State to.

  4. Click Sync.

  5. Refresh the process of the Sync under Sync with Payroll.

If the above steps don't resolve the error, raise a case online and reference the title of this article for further assistance.
