Managers or Approvers can be removed if they have no outstanding approvals. If there are pending leave or profile changes, a manager can still be removed from a team if:
the team has more than one Manager assigned, and
at least one other assigned Manager is active, and
approvals are set up in the workflow to require approval for either ANY manager or ALL managers in the member's team.
For more information on updating workflows, refer to the articles below:
To remove a manager from a Team:
Log in to ESS as an Administrator user.
Go to Teams and select the team you need to remove the manager from.
Click on the ellipsis (three dots) button for the user and select Remove from Team.
Confirm removing the member from the team.
If the user should still be a member of the team but not the manager, use the ellipsis button at the top of the screen to the right of the Team name and select Add Member.
Once the Manager is removed:
The approval workflow is assigned to the next available Manager.
When the approval is set to ANY manager, the next Manager is notified by email of each item that has been assigned to them for approval.
Any redirected approvals remain with the Redirected Approver until the redirection end date.
Outstanding Approvals
If there are outstanding approvals and the Team only has one Manager, then the leave applications and profile changes must be approved for the whole Team before the Manager can be removed. This includes applications with a status In Approval. If there are outstanding workflow approvals and the manager can't Approve or Decline:
Go to Approvals.
Use the drop-down button (triangle) next to My Approvals to change to Other Approvals.
Check the list of outstanding approvals for anything that is assigned to the Manager.
If there is, you can either Approve or Decline the outstanding.
Once leave and profile changes have been approved you should be able to remove the Manager from the Team.
