Error: 'Failed Validation: The value specified for an item does not match the item type value:= (X, item type=string...)' in STP Reporting

Updated over 3 months ago

If you receive this error message, it indicates that there is an unexpected character in the record, e.g., Employee's Given Name contains a space. To correct the error:

  1. Go to Payroll, Maintenance, Employees, Employees.

  2. Edit the employee that received the STP error.

  3. Correct the field that has the unexpected character.

  4. Click OK to save.

As the event has already been reported to the ATO, you will need to send the STP information via an STP Update:

  1. Go to Payroll, Transactions, Import and Export, STP Update.

  2. Select the Company that the STP failed for.

  3. To report all employees, ensure all Locations are selected and tick ALL to the right of Employee.

  4. Select the Financial Year you need to report.

  5. Under Finalise Employees, tick All Employees paid in the selected Financial Year.

  6. Click Apply.

  7. Tick the checkbox on the left to select the employees you wish to report or use the Select All or Unselect All.

  8. Click Update ATO to report the event.

  9. The Declaration window will appear. Complete the window and click Report.

  10. The Update Event will be submitted. You can monitor its progress by going to Payroll, Transactions, Import and Export, STP Reporting.

Important: Final Event should only be ticked if this is the last update you need to send for the employee. For example, when you are reporting STP to the ATO at the end of the financial year.
