Pay workers compensation

Setup leave reason, addition or component to pay workers compensation

You can pay workers compensation using Other Leave and a Leave Reason, or an Addition before tax based on a percentage of the rate. Choose the one that fits how you pay this leave.

Create a Leave Reason for Other Leave

To pay workers compensation as Other Leave, create a Leave Reason for the Workers Compensation.

  1. Go to Payroll, Maintenance, Leave, Leave Reasons.

  2. Click Add.

  3. Enter the Code and Description. The Code is used to select the leave reason in transactions, and the Description appears in reports and pay advices.

  4. Select Other Leave as the Leave Type.

  5. Cost Account is optional. If you select a Cost Account, this will be used each time the leave reason is entered in a transaction. If you leave this blank, the employee's default cost account will be used.

  6. Select Rate Type. This defaults to Normal, but you can change it if a different rate is used.

  7. If applicable, select a Limit Type. For more information, see Leave reason limit.

  8. When Limit Type is used, enter the Maximum Days and possibly the date. When this number of days is exceeded, a warning message appears in the Payroll Audit Report.

  9. Tick Unpaid Leave if the leave reason is unpaid leave.

  10. Tick Workers Compensation.

  11. Click the STP Reporting tab.

  12. Select the Reporting Group and, if applicable, the Reporting Subgroup.

  13. Tick Qualifying Earnings (QE) if applicable.

  14. Click OK to save.

To pay the employee, select Other Leave in the transaction and enter the Leave Reason created above.

Create an Addition before tax based on a percentage

If you need to pay a different percentage depending on the length of workers compensation, set up multiple additions, one for each percentage.

  1. Go to Payroll, Maintenance, General, Additions and Deductions.

  2. Click Add.

  3. Enter the Code, Shortcut Key and Description.

  4. Select Addition Before Tax as the Category.

  5. Select Percent as the Type.

  6. Enter the Percent. Determine the percent based on the state workers compensation legislation and the length of time the employee is on workers compensation.

  7. Tick Specify Hours in Transaction.

  8. Select the Rate. This defaults to Normal, but you can change it if required.

  9. Make any other required selections.

  10. Click STP Reporting.

  11. Select the Reporting Group and, if applicable, the Reporting Subgroup and Other Allowance Description.

  12. Tick Qualifying Earnings (QE) if required.

  13. Click OK to save.
