The General Parameters area contains information common throughout the payroll, such as:
Tax year start and end dates
SGL Parameters
Cost Account Structure
Rate Factors.
To access the General Parameters from the system tree, select Access MicrOpay, Payroll, Maintenance, General, double-click on the General Parameters icon, located in the work area on the right hand side of the screen.
Employees tab
The Code Start fields are used to apply a filter to the Employees grid so that only employees who match the filter criteria are displayed. This can simplify searching the Employee grid in large payroll databases, as MicrOpay only displays the filtered employees rather than all employees in the database. Tick the Require Filter Start checkbox and enter a number in the Length field. This is the number of characters that must be entered before results are displayed in the grid.
A new field, Filter Start, is added to the Employee grid. When the required number of characters are entered in this field, MicrOpay searches the first column in the grid and displays any records that match.
Tax Year
The Tax Year Start and End Dates are displayed on the Tax Year tab in General Parameters. You cannot modify the Start Date and End Date. They are automatically updated with dates for the next year when Change Tax Year is performed during end of financial year processing.
Pay Details
The Pay Details tab is used to specify the format for Time Entry and Denomination values. If you set the Lowest Denomination for Non Cash Payments to 0C (0) tax will be rounded up to the nearest dollar and no cents.
The Time Entry option is a display only field. This option can only be selected when a new database is initialised.
Rate Factors
The options on the Rate Factors are used to enable the selection of Rate Factors and specify descriptions for overtime rates. For more information on Rate Factors review Rate Factors.
SGL
The SGL tab of the General Parameters holds the superannuation guarantee values for the current year. The values on the SGL tab are automatically populated when MicrOpay is installed. When tax scales are updated for the new financial year, SGL values are also updated if necessary. They can be manually edited if necessary but once changed this be applied to all employees where relevant.
Important Note: For MicrOpay Versions 9.2 SP1 B3 and later it is not advisable to remove the default Contribution Cap, as it will result in the calculation parameters failing to calculate the Super Guarantee. Alternatively, you can copy the existing Employer Contribution to create a new code which can be attached to specific employees, and then with the "Apply SGL Exceptions" tick-box un-checked in order to negate the Contribute Cap limit applying to a specific employee or employee group.
Cost Accounts
The Cost Accounts tab is used to set up the Cost Account Structure, and define the Default Cost Account.
The Cost Account Structure determines the format of Cost Accounts that can be created in MicrOpay. This is created as part of the implementation process and will be locked in. If you need to change the cost account structure you will need to engage a consultant.
The default cost account is the cost account used when an employee is not allocated a cost account. A suspense account of all 9s will created when the cost account structure is define and will automatically become the default cost account. You can use a different cost account as the default.
Other
The Other tab is used to specify a threshold for Service Hours and the number of decimal places that are displayed and stored for rates values.
You can select an option to prompt users to enter an effective date and reason when a rate is changed. This is for historical records only, MicrOpay will choose the rate on the employee record when the transaction is entered to calculate the pay, regardless of the effective date.
Integration
If you have purchased the MicrOpay General Ledger Integration module, the Integration tab is also displayed in General Parameters. The options on the Integration tab are used to enable transfer of information between MicrOpay Payroll and MicrOpay General Ledger Integration.
