Why didn't superannuation calculate?

Why is super not calculating for a termination payment? Super hasn't calculated for my under 18 year old, and they have worked 30 hours?

There are a number of reasons why super doesn't calculate or only partially calculates:

  • The Employer Contribution doesn't have had the correct Pay Components, Leave, or Addition/Deductions selected. To review which pay components are currently used to calculate Employer Superannuation:

    1. Go to Payroll, Maintenance, Superannuation, Employer Contribution

    2. Edit the Contribution and check the Calculation Parameters. Refer to knowledge article How do I change the pay components that are being used for Employer superannuation calculations in MicrOpay? for more information on how to include pay components in the superannuation calculation.

  • You have Apply SGL selected in your Employer Contribution and the employee doesn't meet the parameters. To check the SGL Parameters:

    1. Go to Payroll, Maintenance, General, General Parameters.

    2. Select the SGL tab. This will display the current SGL Parameters. You can compare these to your employee to see if there is a reason why superannuation has not calculated

      • Has the employee exceeded the salary cap for the quarter? If so, Super will stop calculating, until the first pay in the new quarter.

      • Is the employee under the Minimum Eligible Age, and have they worked more than the Minimum Weekly Hours for Minimum Age (i.e. under 18 working less than 30 hours)? Additions included in the Calculations Parameters of an Employer Contribution won't be used to calculate the Minimum Weekly Hours. For example, you use an Addition to pay Weekend Hours these will be excluded. To include the hours, when you enter the Weekend Addition, key the same number of Normal Hours with a zero rate.

  • You have Apply Salary & Wages ticked in your Employer Contribution but did not set up the Salary & Wages Parameters (tab) with all the components to calculate whether an employee qualifies for super, or it is not set up correctly. See the notes above with regards to setting up the Calculation Parameters for further information.

  • The Employee's Super Fund on their Employee Record has been terminated. Funds are automatically terminated when you terminate and employee record. To correct this:

    1. Go to Payroll, Maintenance, Employees, Employees.

    2. Edit the employee who's super isn't calculating.

    3. Select Superannuation Details.

    4. Edit the Fund and untick Date Terminated.

    5. Click OK and then OK to save.

    6. Once you have completed the pay, you might want to re-terminated the fund.
