Leave Settings has an Allow Insufficient Balance field for any Leave type that has a leave balance. When this is
Ticked - users can enter a leave application even if they do not have enough leave, creating a negative balance. Any time a Leave Application exceeds an employee's balance, the user will receive a notification in the application. The manager or approver will also see an insufficient balance message on the application and can decline it.
Unticked - prevents users from entering leave applications if they do not have enough leave, therefore preventing an employee from creating a negative balance.
Note: If Display Balance is unticked, Allow insufficient balance will be greyed out. You will need to tick Display Balance to be able to edit Allow insufficient balance.
There is no option to limit the amount of leave in excess that an employee can apply for. Any limits will need to be considered by the approver when they review the application. β

To update Allow insufficient balance in ESS:
Go to Settings, Leave.
Click the Edit button (square with a pencil) for the Leave you want to amend.
Tick or untick Allow insufficient balance.
Click Save.
