From time to time, the Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) selects certain employers to participate in their survey program. One of the surveys employers are required to complete is the Survey of Average Weekly Earnings.
The Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) Report is located in Payroll, Reports, End of Pay, Bureau of Statistics.
The report draws information from the following fields on the Employee Record:
State - The report uses the State held in the employee’s address in Personal Details, even if the employee works in a different State.
Gender - The report only uses Male or Female gender selections. Employees with Other selected are excluded from the report.
Date of Birth - Employees who are 21 years old or above are classified as adults for the purposes of the report, based on the employee's date of birth. Employees under 21 are reported as other employees.
Employment Types - You can specify which Employment Types are included in the report. .
The report includes transaction values for the last, processed pay period ending on or before the survey date nominated by the ABS, to generate Average Weekly Earnings values. For example, the survey date nominated by the ABS is 01/02/2020. When 01/02/2020 is entered in the Date field in the report window, MicrOpay looks at transaction values for the last, processed pay periods with a period end date on or before 01/02/2020.
The components selected may need to be reviewed and corrected. Once you have selected the required fields, tick Default so that the next time you use the report the components will already be selected.
The report is divided into categories to match the ABS survey. By ABS definitions, employees must work an average of 35 normal hours in a week to be classified as full-time. Therefore, the columns Full–Time Male and Full-Time Female are employees over 21, who were paid 35 normal hours or more in the last pay period.
Employees who were paid less than 35 normal hours are included in Other Male or Other Female, irrespective of age. Both full-time and other employees are separated by gender.
RDO hours either paid or deducted are not considered by the ABS to be normal hours, so are excluded from report values.
Things to consider:
If a weekly employee’s pay covers more than one week, MicrOpay calculates the proportional weekly value.
For pay frequencies other than weekly, MicrOpay calculates the proportional weekly value as follows:
Fortnightly and 2 weekly pay values are divided by 2
Monthly pay values multiplied by 12 then divided by 52
4 weekly pay person values are divided by 4
Bi- Monthly values are multiplied by 24 then divided by 52.
MicrOpay does not average pay values when multiple pay runs, that have the same period end date, are processed for the same weekly pay frequency. Instead, uses the values generated in the latest pay run.
