Display deductions correctly to report to the ATO using STP

Updated over 2 months ago

There are four types of deductions that need to be shown separately in STP Pay Events to the Australian Taxation Office (ATO).

  • Salary Sacrifice amounts to be included in Reportable Employer Superannuation Contributions (RESC)

  • Other Salary Sacrifice amounts

  • Workplace Giving

  • Union Fees

To allocate deductions to report correctly in STP you need to select the appropriate options in the STP Reporting of the Deductions.

STP Reporting for Deductions:

  1. Go to Payroll, Maintenance, General, Additions and Deductions.

  2. Edit the deduction you need to change and click on the STP Reporting tab.

  3. Under STP Phase 2, select the Reporting Group.

    • If the deduction is a Salary Sacrifice for Super or another reason, select Salary Sacrifice.

    • If the deduction is for Workplace Giving or Union Fees, select Deduction Items.

  4. When Salary Sacrifice or Deduction Items has been selected, you need to include a Reporting Subgroup.

    • Subgroups for Salary Sacrifice are either S (Superannuation (RESC)) or O (Other Employee Benefit).

    • Subgroups for Deduction Items are either F (Fees) or W (Workplace Giving).

  5. Click OK to save.
