New Zealand - Sick leave for an employee is being paid at a higher rate

Updated over 2 months ago

When paying New Zealand employees' leave, they are often attached to a formula that will average their rate, which is called the Daily Rate or Average Daily Rate. This rate is based on a period of time and calculated by hours worked and then converted to an average.

To see if your employee is getting a formula-based rate, please follow these steps to check.

  1. Go to Access MicrOpay, Payroll, Maintenance, Leave, Leave Reasons.

  2. Click your Leave Reason, for example: Sick, and then Edit.

  3. In the Rate Type, you will see what the Sick Leave is being paid at.

  4. If you require it to be paid as something else, for example, you may want it paid at a normal rate; you can then change it by using the dropdown.

Note: When you change the Rate Type in Leave Reasons, it will change it for ALL employees.
